Round 01Why "Kairos"

The Greeks had two words for time.

χρόνος

Chronos

Clock time. The minutes that tick by whether you use them or not. Six-minute rounds. The drive home.

καιρός

Kairos

The right moment. The opening that only shows up for the person who has put in the work, and only for a second. The sweep, the pass, the finish.

Jiu-Jitsu is the art of being ready for that second. The widow on our wall doesn't chase. She builds, she waits, she moves when it counts. That's how we train.

“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

Romans 5:3–4 NKJV

Technique, discipline and live rounds for the older group. Built for kids who want to get good and parents who want them off the screen.

Round 03Head coach

Trevor White

Marine. Husband. Father. Competitor. Trevor didn't come to Jiu-Jitsu to collect belts. He came to compete, and he's kept competing at every rank since, all the way to the IBJJF World Masters.

7IBJJF podiums
2Gold medals
1Open-class title

A purple belt with years on the mat as an assistant instructor, Trevor opened Kairos to build the room he always wanted to train in: technical, disciplined, family-first, and welcoming to the person walking in for the first time. He teaches the way he competes, with a plan, patience, and an eye for the moment the position opens up.

Round 07Your first class

Nervous is normal. Here's exactly what happens.

  1. Show up 15 minutes early. Wear athletic shorts or sweats and a t-shirt with no zippers. We'll loan you a gi if it's a gi class.
  2. Meet Trevor. He'll ask about your goals and any injuries, and pair you with someone who knows how to take care of a new partner.
  3. Learn one thing well. Warm-up, then technique. You'll drill an escape or a sweep you can use the very next round.
  4. Roll, or watch. Live rounds are optional on day one. Most people jump in by the end of week one.

Round 08FAQ

Questions before you step on the mat.

Do I need to be in shape to start Jiu-Jitsu?

No. Jiu-Jitsu gets you in shape; you don't have to arrive that way. Beginners go at their own pace and we scale every warm-up.

Where is Kairos BJJ?

We're in Rendon, Texas, in south Tarrant County, at 12746 Rendon Rd Suite 108, Burleson, TX 76028, a short drive from Burleson, Kennedale, Mansfield, Crowley and south Fort Worth. Classes begin mid-November.

What's the difference between gi and no-gi?

Gi classes are trained in the traditional kimono, which adds grips on the collar and sleeves. No-gi is trained in shorts and a rash guard and is faster and closer to wrestling. We teach both, and most members train both.

How old does my child need to be?

Kids classes run in two groups: ages 5 to 8, then 8 to 13. Teens 14 and up can join the adult all-levels class with a parent's sign-off.

Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu good for self-defense?

Yes. BJJ teaches you to control a bigger, stronger person without strikes, and to escape when you're pinned. That's why it's the base of most modern self-defense and MMA.

Do I have to compete?

Never. Most members don't. If you want to, Trevor competes himself and will get you ready.

What does the free class include?

One full class of your choice, a loaner gi if you need one, and a few minutes with Trevor to talk about goals and membership. No contract, no pressure.
